Transit Agencies

Public transportation connects communities across Virginia to jobs, health care, entertainment, restaurants, and more. In response to the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19, transit agencies across Virginia have made changes to keep passengers and employees safe. These changes include increased cleaning and disinfecting of vehicles; suspension of some routes and stops; temporary closure of some stations; free fares; and changes in the way that passengers board buses.

Public transit is committed to:

  • Following public health guidelines from official sources.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting transit vehicles frequently.
  • Requiring face coverings and other protections.
  • Keeping passengers informed and empowered to choose the safest times and routes to ride.
  • Putting health first by requiring riders and employees to avoid public transit if they have been exposed to COVID-19 or feel ill.
